Carlson Rezidor Signs Portland Hotel

MINNEAPOLIS—Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group has announced the signing of a new Radisson Red in Portland. This new-build hotel is expected to break ground this summer at the southwest corner of SW Broadway and SW Columbia Street and plans to open in mid-2018. The hotel will occupy the first eight floors of a 19-story mixed-use building to be known as Broadway Tower.

“We are excited to bring Radisson Red to the West Coast. Portland is a vibrant destination and the city aligns perfectly with Red’s brand DNA,” said Javier Rosenberg, chief operating officer, Americas, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. “Red is about doing things differently. We identify talent and train them with a unique approach to service so that our staff can provide a more holistic experience. Unlike traditional hotels, Red doesn’t have a front desk and uses technology to simplify the experience and provide efficiencies including keyless guest room entry. Red will deliver something truly unique to the marketplace.”

Radisson Red is driven and enhanced through local art, music, and fashion and appeals to guests who have an ageless millennial mindset. The hotel’s design will build flow between spaces, breaking down walls traditional hotels use to separate areas such as the lobby, restaurants, bars, and meeting spaces. The design of the hotel will marry these traditional spaces into one integrated social hive. The Radisson Red stay experience is complemented by an app that in addition to providing keyless entry to rooms, allows guests the ability to order food and services, as well as stream wirelessly from their device to the television.

The hotel will also feature the brand’s signature food and beverage outlet, OUIBAR and KTCHN. The bar and restaurant will serve locally sourced, sustainable food inspired by global street fare. It will also capture the Coffee + Craft culture of Portland and will feature a menu of local coffee beverages and beer, among other craft libations.

Radisson Red Portland will offer 180 guestrooms that feature touches of Scandinavian design highlighted by efficient, modern, yet functional furniture pieces like the picnic table that replaces the traditional desk. Self-parking on site has been included in the development plans as well as three Event Studios for multi-purpose use.

“We are excited to partner with Carlson Rezidor to bring this exciting new brand to life in downtown Portland,” said Walter C. Bowen, one of the hotel’s owners and developer of Broadway Tower. “Red is bold and alive, much like our city, making it the perfect match and amenity to the office component of the project. Broadway Tower will generate over 1,700 direct and induced jobs, from entry level in the hotel to ‘C’ level in the office.”

Radisson Red Portland is the second U.S. location the brand has announced, following Radisson Red Minneapolis Downtown which will open in late 2016. The hotel will be managed by Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group and is owned by a group of investors led by Portland native, developer and businessman, Walter C. Bowen. Radisson Red currently has 15 hotels in development across the globe. Carlson Rezidor plans to open 60 Radisson Red hotels globally by 2020.
