W Los Angeles – Westwood Opens Ice Skating Lounge

11/29/2012 | The Scene
Although the winter season often means a drop in incremental revenue from outdoor spaces and restaurants, the W Los Angeles - Westwood has figured out a way to keep people partying by installing its own outdoor ice skating rink.

The hotel's WET pool deck was transformed into a 1,600 square feet hybrid ice skating rink and a rink-side lounge called CHILL. The space, which features winter cabanas and a skate-up bar, was designed by LA-based event design and production company, Chad Hudson Events.

”CHILL represents the latest in our ongoing efforts to further enhance our guests’ experience and provide them with a welcoming atmosphere. Not only does the rink offer a fun winter destination for hotel guests, but it’s also the ideal location for holiday parties, corporate events and after-work lounging. What better way to celebrate the holidays during California’s winter nights than with a spin on a rink with your family, friends, or colleagues?”, says James Gancos, general manager of the property.

Additional features include snowfall every hour, skate-up E-WOW cabana serving winter cocktails, and a Kids Corner on weekends for holiday gingerbread cookie decorating and other kid-friendly activities.

Skaters can enjoy delectable food and cocktails from The Backyard’s “Ice Bar," managed by Choice Hospitality Group. The Ice Bar menu will offer winter bites from Executive Chef Dakota Weiss, such as Cherry Stone Clams baked with Chorizo and Mezcal Butter; Char Grilled Hobbs Bacon with Apple and Habenero Chimichurri; Sherry Braised Dates with Pancetta, Manchego and grilled bread; and Warm Apple Tart with “Moonshine” Hard Sauce and Clove Crumble.

Some other hotels that offer winter ice skating rinks include Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, the Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello in Quebec, the Charles Hotel in Boston, and the Trianon Palace Versailles in France.
