Phulay Bay Introduces Elephant-in-Residence to Launch Family Travel Program
Here at Lodging, we kind of have a thing for cute animals traipsing around hotels. So when Phulay Bay, located in Krabi, Thailand, told us they had a baby elephant on the premises, there were squeals of excitement throughout our office.
Koko is the elephant-in-residence at the Ritz Carlton Reserve property and the two-year old animal is on staff as the brand ambassador for Phulay Bay's new family travel program called "Phulay Baby." The program is set up to attract families traveling with children or families traveling as groups. The program offers supervised activities that people of all ages can enjoy together.
Some Phulay Baby activities include traditional Thai baking classes, arts and crafts projects, Thai dance lessons, and kid-friendly yoga. The culinary team at the resort have also created kid-friendly menus which are served at the property's four restaurants.
But Koko remains the big draw for children and adults alike. The baby elephant greets guests at sunset two nights a week, showing off some of his favorite skills, including kicking a soccer ball, playing the harmonica, and doing handstands. Guests also have the opportunity to feed Koko his favorite foods—pineapples and bananas. This gentle giant even gives little ones rides around the Chomtawan lawn!
Koko lives at a nearby elephant camp, and The Ritz-Carlton Reserve supports the camp to provide healthcare and living assistance for Koko and his fellow elephant friends through a special partnership.
