Could Touch-Screen Tables Transform the Hotel Lobby?
It seems that more and more hotels are doing away with staid, traditional lobby designs and incorporating more informal and interactive spaces where guests can mingle, relax, and have fun.
While we were at HITEC this summer in Baltimore, we stopped by to visit Uniguest, a hospitality technology company that focuses on improving the guest experience with interactive touch points, to see if they had any new and innovative products. Sure enough, we were pretty impressed with a prototype for a touch-screen table, meant for use in hotel lobbies.

The TouchTable is now officially on the market and is available for purchase. It is a fully-customizable product that incorporates either a 44" or 46" touch-screen display into a tabletop designed to fit the aesthetic of any property.
The high-definition, multi-touch tables can be used by groups of two to four people to share information, play games, share photos or videos, or surf the web. These displays offer the technological benefits of other digital signs—checking traffic, weather, or local information—along with the functionality of a useful table that can act as a workspace or an eating area. TouchTable users can also collaborate on a single screen or break the screen up into segments for individual use. The screen also has the ability to flip and rotate, so that guests on the other side can get a proper view of the content.
Another great feature of the TouchTable is that it has the potential to bring in upsell revenue for hotels. Guests can use the table to order food from an in-lobby bar or restaurant without leaving their seats. It also has the capability to display advertising if a hotel desires to use it in such a way.
With these TouchTables, we imagine a lot more people spending time congregating in the hotel lobby and using these designs for both business and leisure activities.
