As Waldorf Astoria Preps for Change, a Look at Its Past

    The storied Waldorf Astoria is less than two months away from its estimated two-year shutdown, during which it will undergo renovations. The hotel, purchased by Chinese insurance company Anbang in 2014, will have many of its rooms converted into condominiums. While its future remains of interest to hoteliers, its past is just as fascinating. The property, which celebrated its 85th anniversary last year, has hosted every U.S. president since Herbert Hoover, in addition to Hollywood royalty like Elizabeth Taylor and Frank Sinatra.
