Airbnb Turns to Local Businesses for Support

    Airbnb is embroiled in a number of legal issues concerning regulatory legislation across the United States. In order to sway public opinion—and the local communities in which it sets up shop—Airbnb hosts are getting in touch with small businesses to familiarize shop owners with Airbnb. Called a “merchant walk,” this meet-and-greet also encourages hosts to tell visitors about local shops. Support from local communities seems to be helping Airbnb grow stronger, with 160 Washington, D.C.-area small businesses signing a petition to block legislation that would prevent Airbnb hosts from posting more than one listing at a time and would require hosts to live on-site during guests’ stays.
