DALLAS, TEXAS—January 20, 2010—Accor
North America announced today that it has opened 70 Motel 6 and Studio
6 locations in 2009. The latest openings include 63 Motel 6 locations
and seven Studio 6 properties, with a room count of 5,109.
The company also said it was the second consecutive year in which its Motel 6 network
achieved record growth. “For the second consecutive year, we have
achieved record growth of the Motel 6 network, while improving the
brand’s quality and consistency,” Olivier Poirot, CEO for Accor North
America, Motel 6 and Studio 6, said in press release announcing the
numbers. “The continued and growing pace of development is a testament
to the strength of the Motel 6 brand and our time-tested business
model.”
The 2009 additions include 82 new franchises (15 of which were
previously Motel 6 corporate-owned properties), two corporate
acquisitions, and one corporate new-build, covering 25 states and two
Canadian provinces. Accor North America currently has over 1,000
economy lodging locations in the United States and Canada, with roughly
35 percent of its network consisting of franchises.
