African American Hotel Ownership Summit Kicks off Tomorrow

7/24/2012
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.—The 16th Annual International African American Hotel Ownership & Investment Summit & Trade Show kicks off tomorrow at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa.

All the major hotel brands and accomplished developers in the business are set to gather together for four days of networking and discussions on the state of the industry and signs of an upturn in the travel market.

Andy Ingraham, president of the National Association of Black Hotel Owners Operators and Developers (NABHOOD), which organizes the summit, stressed the importance of the event, given the changing investment market.

“People are beginning to travel, so money is starting to come back and there is more money available for acquisition and development,” said the CEO of the Horizons Marketing Group, in an announcement. “This is a great opportunity to form new partnerships and form great joint ventures, particularly for Caribbean countries who have not looked at this market before.”

ABOUT THE SUMMIT
The summit is designed to educate attendees on how to become a hotel owner or investor, share minority investment trends, explore supplier opportunities, and decide how to market to minorities and diversity issues affecting the industry.

Key information sessions will take place, including an “Industry Update — Past, Present, Future” with panelists such as PKF Hospitality Research President Mark Woodworth and Smith Travel Research’s (STR) Sr. Vice-President Jan Freitag.
Prime Minister of The Bahamas Perry Christie is confirmed to speak at the highly anticipated event as well as Deputy Prime Minister of St. Maarten William Marlin.

The summit opens on Wednesday morning with the National Association of Black Hotel Owners Operators and Developers’ Historically Black College/University scholarship golf tournament to raise money for minority hospitality students. It will be followed by an Orientation Program for new and prospective hotel owners, committee meetings, the opening General Session and a welcome reception in the evening.

Several hotel companies will have Corporate Suites during the summit and it is encouraged to visit them for additional information. The NABHOOD Awards Luncheon is on Thursday to recognize individuals and companies that have demonstrated through their actions a commitment to diversity while providing opportunities to minorities. The Trade Show will be on Friday in addition to our “Focus on the Caribbean”, where investors and interested persons can meet Caribbean government investment and hotel representatives to hear about investment opportunities and incentives.

This summit has become a recognized industry event for individuals and/or companies interested in African American hotel development & ownership and the multicultural tourism market. Attendees include senior level executives, entrepreneurs, national leaders, hospitality representatives, professional athletes, Convention & Visitors Bureaus and U.S. & foreign government representatives.
