TMI Hospitality is Poised to Impress Guests

12/3/2012 | 'Lodgical' Thoughts

TMI Hospitality celebrated the grand opening of its 91-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott, located across from Sesame Place theme park in Langhorne, Pa., on Thursday. The property, which officially opened in August, is the first SpringHill Suites to feature the new interior package, which plays up bright hues like lime green, magenta, and teal in the lobby and includes an updated guestroom design.

Guestrooms feature separate living, working, and sleeping spaces, and include a pullout sofa bed and lounge chair with ottoman. Families with young children can take advantage of Pack ’N Plays stowed in the closet. The bathroom features a marble-top vanity, iridescent tile walls, and creative lighting features.

Amenities include a business center, meeting room, indoor swimming pool and whirlpool spa, fitness center, guest laundry facilities, grab-and-go market, complimentary hot breakfast, free WiFi in the lobby, and high-speed Internet access in every suite.

TMI, which is based in Fargo, N.D., is responsible for the ownership, operation, construction, and renovation of approximately 200 select service and extended stay hotels in 25 states. Of those properties, 120 are Marriott branded. The company’s portfolio includes 17 different flags.

This year, TMI has had nine hotels in various stages of construction, and another 12 are scheduled to start construction in 2013. The company also remodeled 40 of its properties in 2012, with more renovations planned for next year.

“We’re doing a lot of developing and building,” said TMI CEO and chair of the board Lauris Molbert during a meet and greet at the property. “With that we have more control over our destiny. Assuming we can find the right location, we can construct properties and count on doing that, but we’d like to acquire some hotels if we can too. We’re also very busy changing and remodeling our existing hotels.”

TMI is currently building in secondary and tertiary markets in California, Ohio, Virginia, North Dakota, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

“Many lodging companies say they want to be in the top 20 or top 10 MSAs (metropolitan statistical areas),” Molbert said. “That’s not us. There are a lot of great economic environments in smaller markets, like the top 50 and top 100, so we’re going to places we think have a lot of opportunity.”
